Everything Baant does.

Built around four steps: add an expense, calculate the shares, simplify the debts, settle up. Everything below works in the web app today unless it says otherwise.

Adding expenses

One screen, built to take a normal expense in under ten seconds and a complicated one without a fight.

Quick add
Amount, currency, who paid and who shared on one screen. Description suggests the category.
Several payers
Two people paid at the counter? Enter what each one paid.
Smart add
Type “2400 dinner paid by me with Rahul and Amit”. Baant fills in the form and waits for you to check it.
Voice entry
Say the expense instead of typing it, in browsers that support speech input. You always check before saving.
Details when you want them
Date and time, category, notes, tags, place and how it was paid.
Receipts and documents
Attach photos and PDFs to any expense. They stay on your device and go into your full export.
Duplicate check
Same amount, same day, same payer? Baant asks before you save it twice.
Refunds
Record a refund against the original expense. The original stays as it was and the net is shown.

Every way to split

Shares always add up to the total, to the last paisa, whichever method you pick.

Equally
₹10,000 between four people is ₹2,500 each. Untick anyone who was not there.
Exact amounts
Type what each person owes; Baant shows what is left to assign.
Percentages
40, 30, 30. Up to four decimal places when you need them.
Shares
Two shares for the couple, one for everyone else. Halves allowed.
Adjustments
Add or take off a fixed amount for someone, then split the rest equally.
Item by item
Tick who had each dish. Tax, service charge, tip and discounts follow automatically.
Paid for someone else
Pay the whole bill for three friends and leave yourself out of the split.
Hotel for four, breakfast for two
Use item-by-item lines, or add the breakfast as its own expense for the two who had it.

Currencies and exchange rates

The original amount is never thrown away, and an old expense never changes because the rupee moved.

155 currencies
Every currency in everyday use, each with its own decimals: none for yen, three for Kuwaiti dinar.
A home currency per group
Spend in baht, euros and dirhams; balances show in the group’s currency.
Card statement rate
Enter what your card was charged and Baant works out the exact rate you paid.
Trip rate
Agree one rate for the whole trip and every new expense uses it.
Reference rate for the date
The European Central Bank rate for the day, for about 30 major currencies.
Typed rate
The rate at the exchange counter, as precise as you like.
Offline rates
With no signal, Baant uses the last rate it saw and marks the expense to confirm later.
Rate needed
Save now, add the rate later. The expense waits outside the balances until then.

Balances and settling up

Net everything out, then pick how you want to settle.

Who owes whom
Each person’s balance, and the debts between every pair.
Fewest payments
Baant searches for the smallest number of payments that clears the group.
Fewest international payments
Friends in different countries settle within each country first, so fewer payments cross a border.
Only between people who shared
Nobody pays someone they never split an expense with.
No simplification
Settle debts exactly as they arose, pair by pair.
Part payments
Pay ₹4,000 of ₹10,000. The original debt, the payment and the ₹6,000 still open are all shown.
Settle in another currency
Pay a UK friend in pounds at the rate you both agree; Baant records both amounts and the rate.
Write off small change
The person owed can clear a small balance below the group’s limit.

Payments, UPI and WhatsApp

Baant hands the payment to the app you already use and records what happened. It never holds money.

Pay via UPI
Opens Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or another UPI app with the amount and note filled in.
QR code on a computer
Scan the payment QR from your phone when you are working on a laptop.
Did it go through?
Back from the UPI app, say Paid, Failed, Cancelled or Verify later. Nothing is assumed.
Confirmed by the payee
A payment shows as pending until the person paid confirms it arrived.
WhatsApp messages
Send an expense, a payment request, a reminder or a trip summary to any chat.
Cash and bank transfers
Record them with a reference number (UTR) and a note.
Disputed payments
Say a payment never arrived; it is set aside until the two of you resolve it.
Payment links and more payment appsComing with accounts
A link anyone can open to pay you, and hand-offs to PayPal, Wise and Revolut.

Receipts and restaurant bills

Photograph the bill, check what Baant read, and give each item to the people who had it.

Scan a receipt
Baant reads the items, tax, service charge, tip and total from a photo, on your own device. You check every line before saving.
Live bill splitting
Tick who had what; each person’s total updates as you go.
Tax and tip your way
Share them in proportion, equally, or assign them to particular people.
Prices with tax included
For bills that print prices including GST or VAT.
Totals must reconcile
If the lines do not add up to the bill, Baant says so before you save.
Discounts and round-off
Coupons, discounts and the rupee rounded off at the till.

Repeating expenses

Rent, electricity, internet, the maid, the club subscription.

Any schedule
Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, or every few days, weeks or months.
Start, end or count
Run from a date, until a date, or for a number of times.
Reminders
See the next one coming up to 30 days ahead.
Add when due
One tap adds everything that is due, or let Baant add them by itself when you set it up that way.
Its own rate each time
A Netflix bill in dollars is converted at the rate on the day it falls due.

Unlimited groups and people
